Introduction

Unsub for Gmail ("the Extension") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use the Extension.

Data Collection and Use

The Extension only accesses your Gmail account to scan for newsletters and unsubscribe links. Specifically:

Gmail Scan: We read the headers and content of your emails to find unsubscribe information (List-Unsubscribe headers and body links).
No Server Storage: All scanning happens locally in your browser. We do not send your email content to any external server.
Local Storage Only: The list of newsletters and unsubscribe history is stored only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local).

Gmail API Scopes

The Extension uses the following Gmail API scopes:

gmail.readonly — Read email metadata and content to find unsubscribe options
gmail.send — Send unsubscribe emails on your behalf via Gmail
gmail.modify — Archive emails and create filters (optional, user-controlled)
gmail.settings.basic — Manage Gmail filters
userinfo.email — Display your Gmail address in the Extension

      ⚠️ Important: We never store, log, or transmit your email content outside your browser. All processing is done locally.
    

Authentication

The Extension uses OAuth 2.0 (Chrome identity flow) to authenticate with Gmail. Your authentication token is managed by Chrome and never stored by us.

Data Deletion

You can delete all local data at any time by:

Logging out from the Extension (clears scan cache)
Clearing your Chrome browser storage (erases all local Extension data)
Uninstalling the Extension (Chrome automatically removes all associated data)

Third-Party Links

When you click "Unsubscribe" on a newsletter, the Extension may:

Send a POST request to the sender's unsubscribe endpoint
Compose an unsubscribe email via Gmail
Open the sender's unsubscribe page in your browser

These actions are governed by the respective newsletter sender's privacy policies, not ours.

Security

The Extension communicates with Gmail exclusively via HTTPS and never stores authentication credentials. All data remains in your browser unless you explicitly request actions (like creating a filter).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the Extension or this page.
